VIS Vienna Independent Shorts resulted from the merger of several student initiatives in 2004, which had already organized short film events in Vienna in the previous years. The first festival edition was held from June 6th to June 12th in 2004. While the opening and the closing night were organized together, the organization of the five days in between was incumbent on the respective initiatives separately.
2009: For the first time more than 1.000 short films were submitted (see submission statistics). The sixth edition of VIS Vienna Independent Shorts was held from May 14th to May 20th, 2009. Special programmes commemorated the years 1939 und 1989 and focussed on Russia and the United States.
Submitting films for VIS Vienna Independent Shorts 2010 is possible until January 8th, 2010.
Short films of up to 30 minutes may be submitted, regardless of the year of production.
All languages are accepted. If the original language is neither German nor English, there must be English subtitles. Only DVD (PAL/NTSC) video formats are accepted for preview.
